rokillion
I have 2 Windows 7 (64 bit) machines on the same Home Group and an Iomega external hard drive (connected via USB to one of the PCs) which I back up to. (Iomega tech support was unable to help me get it working through the router.) I have Professional 7.7 installed on both machines. The backup works perfectly on the machine connected via USB to the Iomega drive. On the other machine, I can run the backup script manually without any problems. However, whenever the script tries to execute per the schedule, I get the following error: "Can't access volume of Russ on Ro-pc, error - 1017 ( insufficient permissions). Execution incomplete." I don't understand why I don't receive any permissions errors when I run the script manually but always receive them when the script tries to execute automatically. Please help! Thank you! john_gregg
Try changing the log on settings for the Retrospect Launcher app in the Services control panel. I changed mine from "Local Account" to "Use This Account" and things started working better. One problem I had before this was that I couldn't check the status of a remote backup set, despite entering my credentials correctly in the popup box. rokillion
Thanks so much for your reply. Unfortunately, I'm not enough of a techie to know how to implement it. I was able to find the Retrospect Launcher in Services and found the Log On tab. However, when I selected the "This account" option I didn't know what to enter. When I clicked on Browse, the only thing listed was the name of the PC I was using and there were asterisks in the password and confirm password boxes. I don't want to mess things up so definitely need more help. Thank you!
Daniels
After clicking "Browse" you should select the "Administrator" account and click "OK" and it should fill everything in for you. Click "OK" to close the window and then stop and re-start the service to make sure it starts correctly. You can also specify a user in Retrospect itself by going into Preferences and selecting Security and using "Always run Retrospect as the specified user" option. This would also require the local administrator account and password as well as the computer name.
