ferthalangur
We have been evaluating Retro8.1 on one Mac Server (call it "Z") and we just ordered a Multi-Server license. Our evaluation license runs out tomorrow. We plan to do our production backups on a different, beefier Server (call it "C") once we've moved some applications off and reconfigured. The question is -- how easy is it to move the Retrospect license from one backup server to another? We don't want to lose the configuration work we have put into setting up and starting to back up our enterprise using the setup on Z, but we're not going to be able to migrate to C for several weeks at least ... and we'd rather not stop backups for that interim period. Recommendations? Should we get an extension on our trial license on Z and install the new license on C when it's ready, or should we install the new license on Z and when we need to switch servers contact Tech. Support about how to move the license from one server to the other? Thanks
rhwalker
Rob, First, this is the Retrospect for Windows forum. Because you are running Retrospect 8.1 for Macintosh, and because your question relates to Retrospect 8.1 for Macintosh, this is not the right place for your post. The Retrospect 8 for Macintosh forum is here: Retrospect 8 for Macintosh forum Second, to answer your question, see page 238 of the Retrospect 8 User's Guide ("Moving Retrospect to a Different Computer"). Here is a link to the Retrospect 8 User's Guide: Retrospect 8 for Macintosh Users Guide Russ
ferthalangur
Thanks Russ. I had posted this in the "Customer Support Forum" and got moved here. From reading TFM there seems to be no reference to license key issues with moving the installation, so I'll worry about that when it's time to move servers.
