NB1906 Posted May 6, 2010 Report Share Posted May 6, 2010 I have a number of tapes from old backups that when I try to erase them the erase process fails because the tapes are locked. The tapes were originally used by retrospect I have tried using windows backup to erase the tapes, but when I attempt to use retrospect to erase them before adding to backup set they fail because unknown media. Daniels Posted May 6, 2010 Report Share Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) What kind of tapes are you using? For AIT tapes make sure the orange tab on the front of the tape is the down position. If it is in the up position then the tape is locked and can not be erased. The other possibility is that the tapes are damaged and the drive is not reading them correctly.
