pbartoli
I'm trying to prepare a bullet-proof backup system and this includes - as I understand - not only the backup of files but also of the catalog of the backup itself. But when I try to get into this, things get a little blurry to me. In the recently released user manual for Retrospect 8 Mac OSX, it is stated that the backup catalog by default are stored in /library/application support/retrospect/catalogs/ : this is cristal clear. What is less clear to me is WHICH file exactly I should backup. In my configuration the catalog is supposed to be named "Bckp srvr B.rbf", but as I check the modification date is not today (I just finished a backup): this confuses me. If "Bckp srvr B.rbf" is supposed to be THE catalog, it should bring today's date, right? So where is the catalog my backup is currently using, how do I know? Can it be located somewhere else then /library/application support/retrospect/catalogs/? Thanks
Maser
Catalogs should be named ".rbc" -- not .rbf The default procedure for creating new media sets will install the catalogs in the directory you mentioned, but it's entirely possible to save the catalog files in another directory. I save mine in a folder I created (/Catalogs). If you select your media set in "Media Sets" in the console, it should tell you exactly where the path containing your catalog file is in the "Summary" section.
