QonoS
Compare and contrast: EMC Retrospect 6.1 for Macintosh Read Me: Tips and Late-Breaking Information [...] Retrospect 6.0 backup sets: Retrospect 6.1 supports backup sets created with Retrospect 6.0. However, once you write to a 6.0 backup set with Retrospect 6.1, you may get errors if you try to use Retrospect 6.0 to restore from this backup set. New backup sets created with Retrospect 6.1 cannot be used with Retrospect 6.0. versus (from the forums): This thread [rhwalker]If you are running Retrospect 6.0.x (rather than 6.1.x), you will need to create a new backup set going forward, because Retrospect 6.1.x cannot write to Retrospect 6.0.x backup sets (the format changed). And this thread: [twickland]The Retro.Config file from 6.0 is compatible with 6.1. However, your backup sets from 6.0 are read-only under 6.1, due to changes in the catalog structure, so you will need to create new backup sets. These statements can't all be right. Either #1 (from the ReadMe) is right and #2 and #3 are wrong, or #1 is wrong and #2 and #3 are right. I'd really like to know which it is, given that I have just gone to Retro 6.1 from 6.0 and I have a lot of backups created in 6.0.
Lennart_T
I'd really like to know which it is, given that I have just gone to Retro 6.1 from 6.0 and I have a lot of backups created in 6.0. Then you should have found out already: Retrospect will tell you if the backup sets are indeed incompatible. In any case, a backup set used for backups in 6.1 can't be used in 6.0. Then you should call EMC Retrospect support, pay for a support call, and get an official answer. Here's how: Contact EMC Retrospect support These forums are user-to-user support. All we can do is to report our experience. Nothing that any of us other users post here can be considered official. When I moved from Retrospect 6.0 to Retrospect 6.1 years ago, as I recall, I had to treat all of our 6.0 backup sets as read only. Now, we use tape backup only, and so your experience may differ.
