Retrospect: can't read, error -1100 ( invalid handle)

Hello,

 

I am getting the above -1100 error during backups, but first...

 

The setup:

X-Serve 2x2GHz Intel Xeon, 3GB RAM, OS X Server 10.6.2

connected via FireWire800 to

DroboPro, 4x2TB HDs, config'd as 16TB volume, FW 1.1.5

backing up to

Exabyte 10x1U VXA-3 Autoloader via Atto UL4S

using

Retrospect 8.1 (build 626).

 

The problem:

There are rotating media sets which are recycled weekly. During the first (recycle) backup there are in the order of 60,000+ execution errors of the type ": can't read, error -1100 ( invalid handle)". This backs up 300+GB and leaves 500+GB. During subsequent daily (normal) backups this number of failures reduces.

 

Things tried so far:

Restarts (HW and SW), Disk Utility shows the Drobo to be OK.

 

I've seen older posts with the same problem but no resolution.

 

If anyone could shed some light on this problem I would be extremely grateful.
