tchumley
I'm making the switch to Retrospect 8, and my first step is to add existing backups to Retrospect. When I select Media Sets, click on Locate, and then select a catalog file, I get this message "Catalog is damaged or unsupported." (It is not password-protected.) OK, so next I tried to Rebuild the catalog. Clicking on Rebuild, I select a File set, then navigate to the Media Set and select it. The error message reads: Wrong Path. First, I don't believe the catalog is corrupt. Second, what the hell is "Wrong Path"? Thanks.
rhwalker
What version of Retrospect made the "existing backups" that you are trying to add? Russ

rhwalker
Well, then, that's the problem. I suggest that you take a look at the Retrospect 8.1 Read Me Known issues with this release Retrospect 8.1 cannot import configurations or read Backup Sets from versions 6.x or earlier. "unsupported" is the magic word in the error message that you received. Why would anyone expect a backup program to be able to restore from older backups made by an older version of the program? To me, that seems like the whole point of a backup program, but what do I know. It is rumored that Retrospect 8.2, expected later this quarter century, may be able to read Retrospect 6.x backups. tchumley
Unbelievable! The upgrade won't read backup sets from a previous version of the software??? Their solution: maintain your previous Retrospect installation. Almost all software I use offers a way to convert old data when an upgrade renders previous data formats obsolete. Bad form, EMC. Thanks, Russ, for bringing this to my attention.
