kmpeterson
I'd like to get some feedback on whether this is a (known) bug... I'm working with some new rules, and so I have a new backup media set that I'd like to see in detail what is backed up into it. There doesn't seem to be a way to generate a list of files. Okay, that's fair. I've tried using the Restore Assistant as well as the Browse button under "Past Backups". I have a fairly large home directory with ~100,000..999,999 files, though the rule should have excluded the vast majority of them. Bringing up the dialog to look at the contents of the backup, there's a minute or two pause, then I see the sources listed. I can click the "disclosure triangle" until I get to my home directory, then the throbber starts in and - well, the last time I tried this I let it sit for 4 hours before giving up. There are two backups in this set, the initial and the second one, but the initial backup doesn't show up in the "Past Backups" window. (It is in the log, though.) The size of the media set (it's a Disk backup set, on an SMB share) is 86GB, and I believe the majority of the files are not in this home directory. The size of the catalog is 682MB. This is the latest version of Retro, running on OS X 10.6.3, on a MacPro (2x2.8GHz Quad Core); with 6GB of memory, and otherwise unloaded - not exactly a lightweight system. (I experienced a crash of RetroEngine in a previous attempt to debug this - but this time, the backup appeared to complete, albeit with 226 errors). There are two entries in the system log during this period: 4/1/10 08:25:34 Retrospect[3885] [ valueForUndefinedKey:]: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key test. 4/1/10 11:36:01 Retrospect[3885] BackupBrowseController::connectOnQueue exception: error Any ideas? What to do/where to go next? Thanks!
Maser
A couple of points: 1) Unless you have grooming turned on for your media set, you won't see each individual backup in "Past Backups" -- you'll only see the last one. I believe this is by design. 2) The "one million files in your home directory" can't-view issue -- sounds like a bug to me. The only thing I could recommend trying would be to stop/start the engine and quit/relaunch the console and see if that helps with that view. If not, you should report this. (I have no directories on my computers with 1M files in them, so I can't try to replicate this here, unfortunately.) You might want to file #2 in the "Bug Reports" forum. kmpeterson
Hi Maser, Thanks for your reply! I don't have grooming turned on for this media set. I'll see if anyone can help with the bug... Something seems definitely funny here...
