mudcow007
hello all sorry im new to Retrospect so bare with me. i currently have single server (7.6.123) installed on our y2k file server. im backing up daily to a LTO2 tape drive. what i want to know is if i have 5 different tapes, insert one each day of the week can i set retrospect to do a incremental backup just backing up the changed files, each day. at the moment when i insert a tape. Retrospect complains that the tape from the day before is not inserted. does all that make sense? many thanks
Richy_Boy
I don't have any experience with tapes, but I suspect you would need a 'backup set' per tape/day, then a duplicate backup script per day also. i.e. Monday script >> Mondays tape (backup set) Tuesday script >> Tuesdays tape (backup set) ...etc. The backup set is tied to a tape/disk you are writing too, so if you swap the tape, Retrospect can no longer find it and will complain. There is an option if it can't find the tape to use a new one, but I'm not sure if that's what you really want? Rich

Lennart_T
hello all sorry im new to Retrospect so bare with me. ahh good idea, so have a Monday backup set, Tuesday backup set etc an then have a specific tape for each day. Just FYI:Every Monday, Retrospect will backup all files changed since last Monday. Every Tuesday, Retrospect will backup all files changed since last Tuesday. ...and so it. This also means that every day you will have a complete backup of the contents of the client's disk(s). That's called a "snapshot".
