swvonholzen
I have been using 7.6 for well over a year, few issues. I have just upgraded to 7.7 same computer Windows XP Pro, fully updated. I have checked for any other updates and the Retrospect software is up to date. I have installed the latest Mac Client 6_3_028 on the Computer I have been updating using 7.6. What is happening is I can run the same script and it backs up the files and then it says these last steps: "Updating Catalog file - Building Snapshot - Copying Snapshot" and at that MOMENT the program closes and a Retrospect screen comes up saying Retrospect is not running. I receive No email notification that the backup was successful. Any Thoughts out there? Thanks Scott V H
MRIS
So to re-cap, you're using a Windows XP computer running Retrospect 7.7 to backup a MacOS client computer which has the latest agent installed. My advice would be to create a new, empty backup set, and backup the Mac to it. If you don't have enough space for a full backup, backup some of the mac, such as most of the OS. The purpose is to confirm or disproove my theory that there's something about your current backup set catalog which is corrupt, causing the crash just as the catalog is being updated. I'm hoping that by switching to a new backup set, with its new empty catalog, that the problem will go away. If it does, then that's your answer, simply backup to a new backup set and after a while you'll be able to recycle (wipe) the old one. swvonholzen
I created a couple of new Catalog files and did a number of small backups with the exact same results. It does the backup, but when it gets to Copying the Snapshot the program exists and I need to restart it. I am wondering if I should just uninstall the program and reinstall, and what would be the correct procedure to not lose the Catalog? swvonholzen
Solved one way: I was eventually planning to move the Retrospect backup from a small XP box to a new Windows 7. I did a fresh install of 7.7 on the Win 7, updated, and ran a small back up of the Mac that had been failing before. Of course, there was no problems. I believe I can move the old Catalog over to the new box... but wonder if maybe it would be better to not....and just keep going from this fresh start. Still would like to understand what may have been the problem that occured after upgrading from 7.6 to 7.7. Any thoughts? Scott V H
