Need Custom Report: 31 Day Schedule

Recommended Posts

I have spent an insane amount of time trying to figure this out, so I am going to throw this out to the resident experts, and hopefully someone will have the answer.

The (seemingly) simple task:

Create a Report that shows the Activities that are supposed to occur in the next 31 days. (Basically, I am trying to duplicate the Preview functionality that was available within a particular script in Retrospect 6).

What I have so far:

After a lot of thrashing around I have a Saved Report that has the following criteria:

"Date" "is within" "31" days of today.

The issues:

First, the report as it exists now shows me all of the backups that have run within the past 31 days. I just want to see what is going to occur after "Today".

Second, if I click on the default "Scheduled" button in the Report header I see all of the scripts that are scheduled to run today, all of the scripts that are scheduled to run tomorrow, and then, seemingly randomly, one of the scripts that is scheduled to run on Monday. Note that even though I am clicking this button in my saved report it has nothing to do with MY report - this exact same list is displayed when I click on the "Scheduled" button if I am in the "Activities" sidebar icon. Obviously, my scripts have schedules that go well beyond the next three days. In fact, I have a couple of scripts that are not scheduled to run again for another five days, and they are not showing up (just in case you thought that Retrospect was only showing the next instance of when a script would run).

Third, and I am sure this is related to the above, I think the key here is to untangle the Status of the pending Activities.

After a lot of poking around in the predefined Reports I determined that one of the criteria that can be added is "Status". Unfortunately, when you add that criteria you get a text field that you have to fill in, modified by typical text modifiers (i.e., "contains", "is", "is not", etc.). The problem is that I can't figure out what the syntax is that Retrospect is expecting for the Status field.

Let's look at a couple of examples.

First, if I enter "Status""contains""Scheduled" I get the same list as I get if I click on the Scheduled button. I can change the modifier to anything and I still get the same list.

Second, after looking in another report I found that someone had defined the Status field with the value "Waiting for next backup". If I try to define "Status""contains""Waiting" I get nothing in the list. Ditto for all of the other modifiers.

I have tried lots of other values, but nothing seems to work.

So, does anyone have any idea what the valid values are for the Status field? Any ideas on why I am only seeing a few days worth of backups when I click on Scheduled?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

-John
