isd728
Ok, so why do I get this error when I add a Windows machine? I have a number of Mac clients added under sources and only one Windows source. It does not let me add any more. We have the Retrospect 8 Single Server, Unlimited Clients license. Version 8.1 (626) Win Client (Tried 7.7 and 7.6)
rhwalker
Perhaps is there a version of Retrospect (non-client) running on that Windows machine, or some version of a Windows server? The definition of "server" in Retrospect's licensing (see the product description) is a bit odd to some people. Retrospect 8 product blurb A "server" is defined as: (1) Any machine running Retrospect (non-client) or (2) Any machine running Mac OS Server, Windows server, or Linux server. A "non-server" is defined as: (1) A machine running Retrospect client that is a desktop or notebook not running a Server OS. You can purchase additional "server" licenses for a client running on such a "server". Russ
Mayoff
What version of Windows is that client running?
isd728
Ok, if that's true, two things.. 1. I have added a number of Mac Servers to the retrospect sources area with no issues. 2. The error says "...prohibits adding this client". It says CLIENT right in the error. I hate to say it, but we have spent way too much time and money over the years to keep using Retrospect. Now this? This was the last straw.
isd728
Tried 7.6 and 7.7.
Maser
No, he meant what version of *Windows* is the client installed on?
isd728
Ahh, I have tried Win2008 64Bit and Win2003 Standard. Also, I currently have it working properly on a Win2008 64Bit server. But, that is the only one I have been able to add.

This is user-to-user support in these forums. Good luck, just trying to help. Russ

If you remove that, you should be able to add the Win2003 server.
isd728
Well, I would go back and read it, but I can't get past the fact that you needed to point out that you were using your "unpaid" time to write a response.

scsctech
Strike 1 man. Not the attitude to be taking in a user support forum. You hit the nail on the head Russ. He bought single server, he used up the license. Pretty simple.
Mayoff
You need a multi-server edition or a server client license to backup additional servers on your network. You do get unlimited workstations though.
