Now however I get the Application error: Application failed to initialize (0x000005). I tried several things (also reinstallation) but the program will not start. What to do? Pls reply. Urgent as Retrospect is used each day.
rhwalker
Exactly what version of Retrospect? (6.x.x) Exactly what hardware configuration? Exactly what OS version / patch level? Exactly what "several things" did you try when you attempted to troubleshoot the problem? What were your results? If you expect help, you need to provide details. If you need urgent help, I suggest that you contact EMC Retrospect support: Contact EMC Retrospect support These forums are user-to-user support. liberty
Thank you for your prompt reply. I have version 6.0. And used it for several years. I cannot give you any more information from the program as it not cannot be accessed in Windows. The error comes from Windows. I have a computer with a AMD processor with Windows XP Pro SP3 installed. I started to try reinstallation of Retrospect, also in Safe mode, and continued with computer cleaning and some setting changes (as DEP). I am now thinking of System Restore etc. Do you have any experience of this error? I can send you a HiJackThis output if you think you could do something from it. rhwalker
Sorry, can't help you if you can't provide needed information. I suggest that you contact EMC Retrospect support: Contact EMC Retrospect Support As a comment, Retrospect 6.0 (whatever version you have of that program) is years old. You might want to consider updating to a current, supported version. Good luck. Russ
liberty
Thank you very much for the reply. Please explain to me and the readers what information is necessary for you which I have not provided. The exact version number of Retrospect, which has been working in XP for more than 2 years until now, I cannot get in the present situation. The present problem is obviously a software problem and I have offered you such information. I could also send you a Process Explorer output. I could test the free trial version 7.7. Maybe there are other people here with some experience that could give me proposals. I want to avoid a new Windows installation. Pls help. I hope that I could get some support at this site for such a fundamental problem without paying.
henway1
Liberty, I sympathize with your problem. Backing up computers is an important step in preventing data loss. This is indeed a forum for helping people with Retrospect issues. However, I believe the administrator for some reason has not gotten around to making a heading for a forum to discuss Retrospect 6.0 issues. I emailed him about this last week, but so far I have not received a response. There is a heading for "Retrospect 5.0 and Earlier", but so far there is nowhere to discuss Retrospect 6.0 issues. Perhaps a "Retrospect 6.0" forum will someday be started. I know this does not help much with your current situation and I am sorry about that. Many people, including me, use Retrospect 6.0 and have had good experiences with it. However, any software can have issues from time to time. I have Retrospect ver. 6.0.222. I understand that you cannot get your version number because you cannot get the program to start. Your sort of in a Catch 22..You can't get your version number because the program won't start, and you can't get help without a version number. That's called an endless loop. Best of luck, James Green, M.D.
liberty
I have the same version as you 6.0.222. I found it after installation on another computer. Will never someone from EMC/Dantz reply here?

Mayoff
I guess what I do not understand is exactly when this error happens. What are you doing to make the error happen?
liberty
Thank you. I just try to start the program by clicking.
Mayoff
have you tried after removing the Retrospect folder from all users/application support?
liberty
I have had it installed in the Program Files folder and now also in a separate folder in C: I am using XP Pro SP3. The day before the problem I installed Dreamweaver CS4 Do you mean in Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data? 1. I have also tried by starting directly in C: 2. Is it just to move the folder there to my personal folder or do I have to make a new installation? How? 3. Can I use 6.0 and 7.7 at the same time in XP? henry_sh
If there is an "Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Retrospect" in your machine, rename it to "RetrospaceBk" or something else. You don't need re-install Retrospect usually. But why not? Retrospect will start from scratch with new config. If it starts successfully it filtered out a reason, right? Then try load backupsets one by one and validate them if they are right, one at a time. Let's see what happen then.
