Latouffe
Hi, Straight to the Point, has anyone or Retrospect tested: Quantum Superloader3 LTO-4 HH, SAS connection with retrospect Server 8.1, Atto HBA H380, Xserve running 10.6.2. We've been backing up to HD with retrospect without any issue at all. We connected the Superloader and retrospect sees it no problem. but it will not complete a backup to tape at all. It starts then after a while (and while copying) the back up will stall and the Quantum will report an error 6E comm error on its LCD. And this happens systematically !! :angryred: Before the Atto we had an LSI card and it crashed the server every single time. Reported the fault to Quantum(Brand new unit) and got a brand new one sent to us !! plug it in Bang same error on the Quantum!! I checked everything software wise and it's all compatible according to all manufacturers involved !! I installed the card on a Virgin Macpro with 10.6.2 and it did the same. I'm going to have to check the Atto card and the cable .. then may will have to ditch retrospect and use Atempo and see it is playing ball but my client is getting his short gun ready. I have to mention as well that either the Quantun interface or retrospect seem to lose the library one the back up fails. As i said backing to a dive is fine, but we haven't been able to back up to the Superloader since we had it a little over a month ! EMC support in Australia is non existent.. so i need to rely on this forum !! Has anyone have a similar setup which is working?? Regards And thanks for your time and all feedback will be appreciated Logs are available.
Encompass
Hi I do not have a solution, but I have the EXACT same issue and have tried exactly the same things as you have, including the LSI and Atto card. Quantum sent me out a new drive, but this did not resolve the issue, however now I CANNOT even see the Superloader in system profiler!!! There is a new firmware out for the superloader, so I am waiting for a call from Quantum to send me the new firmware. Please let me know if you get anywhere with this and I will do likewise. The only I have got this to work so far is to use Retrospect 6, but this was still very unreliable! Kind regards
Latouffe
Hi, Sorry to hear that. I'm getting similar stories and it points to retrospect 8 at this stage. I did get retrospect support here in Australia to get involved. I'll keep you posted of any development. Regards
