theralph
I can't seem to find any info on this error code. I was doing a simple Copy of my Laptop hard drive and it gets about half way through copying and then throws out this error: + Duplicate using Copy Assistant - 3/1/10 12:56 PM at 3/4/2010 8:16 AM 3/4/2010 8:16:02 AM: Connected to localhost To volume MacBook Pro 17-inch... - 3/4/2010 8:16:02 AM: Copying Macintosh HD on localhost ****** Warning: Copying Time Machine data is not supported. ****** > *File "Macintosh HD/Library/Logs/DirectoryService/DirectoryService.server.log": appears incomplete > *File "Macintosh HD/Library/Printers/hp/Profiles/photosmart/HP PSPro B8800-Professional Satin Photo.icc": can't write, error -2350 ( File end missing) > !Trouble reading files, error -519 ( network communication failed) 3/4/2010 9:09:29 AM: Execution incomplete Remaining: 198890 files, 6.3 GB Completed: 106794 files, 2.5 GB Performance: 51.2 MB/minute Duration: 00:53:25 (00:04:03 idle/loading/preparing)
theralph
UPDATE: I decided to try a Backup script instead of a Copy Script and got some very interesting. I have 4 sources and it seems to have done okay on 3 of them. The 1 source that didn't work gives the same -519 error code. Here is the error: + using Backup Assistant - 3/4/10 7:19 PM at 3/4/2010 7:22 PM To Media Set Network Users... - 3/4/2010 7:22:52 PM: Copying Macintosh HD 3/4/2010 7:22:52 PM: No files need to be copied 3/4/2010 7:32:50 PM: Snapshot stored, 224.0 MB 3/4/2010 7:33:00 PM: Comparing Macintosh HD 3/4/2010 7:33:11 PM: Execution completed successfully Duration: 00:10:18 (00:08:08 idle/loading/preparing) - 3/4/2010 7:33:11 PM: Copying Ralph 120 GB_1 on Ralph Scherer’s Desktop 3/4/2010 7:33:11 PM: No files need to be copied 3/4/2010 7:38:46 PM: Snapshot stored, 89.0 MB 3/4/2010 7:38:50 PM: Comparing Ralph 120 GB_1 on Ralph Scherer’s Desktop 3/4/2010 7:39:07 PM: Execution completed successfully Duration: 00:05:56 (00:05:23 idle/loading/preparing) - 3/4/2010 7:39:07 PM: Copying Ralph Maxtor on Ralph Scherer’s Desktop > Scanning incomplete, error -519 ( network communication failed) - 3/4/2010 7:39:36 PM: Copying Ralph 120 GB_2 on Ralph Scherer’s Desktop 3/4/2010 7:39:36 PM: No files need to be copied 3/4/2010 7:40:34 PM: Snapshot stored, 12.0 MB 3/4/2010 7:40:37 PM: Comparing Ralph 120 GB_2 on Ralph Scherer’s Desktop 3/4/2010 7:40:49 PM: Execution completed successfully Duration: 00:01:12 (00:00:58 idle/loading/preparing) 3/4/2010 7:40:49 PM: Execution incomplete Total duration: 00:17:56 (00:14:59 idle/loading/preparing) The weird thing is that Ralph Maxtor, the one failing, is the startup drive for the computer that has Ralph GB1 and Ralph GB2, which were successful. Any ideas on how I should proceed troubleshooting this issue. Thanks! Edited March 5, 2010 by Guest
CallMeDave
I was doing a simple Copy of my Laptop hard drive Those of us reading have no knowledge of your Laptop hard drive, how you have configured Retrospect or exactly what steps you are taking. Lucky for us, you are right there! So perhaps if you describe things in adequate detail we readers might be able to help you troubleshoot the issue. theralph
Sorry for the lack of info. Here goes: The laptop is a Macbook Pro 17 inch running the latest Snow Leopard. I am using the console on the laptop and the engine is on one of my desktop machines running Tiger 10.4.11. I have 4 licenses, a 3-pack and an additional license and I have added 3 clients so far.... the laptop already mentioned, another desktop running Tiger and the Tiger machine that has the engine. Everything seems to back up fine except the start up drive on the other non-engine desktop machine. I have a 20-port switch and I am using 3 ethernet ports out of the 20 to connect the laptop and the 2 desktop machines. Let me know if you need any other info. Thanks! CallMeDave
First off, you do not need a Client installed on the Engine host computer; the Engine can see everything locally. If you were doing a simple Copy of your 17" Macbook Pro hard drive, why does the log you include say "[color:red]To[/color] volume MacBook Pro 17-inch.."? And I don't understand why the log states "Connected to localhost?" How you have things configured is still not exactly clear; what is shown in the General tab of the Console's Preferences window? Dave First of all, I was able to get the backup to work by running Disk Genius on the problem machine. It found some errors in the volume bit map and extents trees. I also defragmented the problem drive and now the backup worked flawlessly. I wonder if the "simple copy" will now work? As to your question about being connected to the localhost, that is a good question, I think? Since the engine is on my 10.4.11 Tiger desktop machine and the Laptop is running the console (not the engine) wouldn't that mean the Laptop is a volume? Here is a screen shot of the console general preferences as it stands right now: http://ralphscherer.com/retrospect/generalpref.png This may not be how it was when I had the backup problem. What is the simplest way of deleting the Client from the Engine machine? Edited March 5, 2010 by Guest
Pforne
Since I already tackled my -519 errors I feel compelled to post here, even if you've solved your problem... Try creating a network location on the client that has ONLY the network adapter used for backup... in other words, create a location that has everything but ethernet turned off or removed. And/or try restarting the client machine each day after it has been properly connected to your office network.
