Issues recovering 6.1 Backups

Hi all. We have just sold my client Retrospect 8, installed on a Mac Pro, and that is all working fine. However they have some legacy tapes made elsewhere with version 6.1 that they need to read. (They have the catalog files included on CDs). We have installed a copy of 6.1 (latest version) on their Mac Pro, and can read the catalogs from the CD, but ver 6.1 doesn't see the HP 1760 SAS drive (it connects via an ATTO H380 SAS HBA). It only sees the DVD drive and shows SCSI 0,0 when we do a rescan but no tape drive. Any ideas?

When you try this, is the Retrospect 8 engine stopped? Can't run 8 and 6.x at the same time. They can be installed on the same machine, but can't both be running because Retrospect 8 will grab the devices.

Also, you are missing a few key pieces of information.

(1) What version of Mac OS is running on the Mac Pro? If its Snow Leopard (Mac OS 10.6.x), that's an unsupported configuration with Retrospect 6.x.

(2) What version of Retrospect 6.1? (6.1.?)

(3) What version Retrospect Driver Update (RDU) with the Retrospect 6.1.x ? Note that the HP 1760 SAS requires RDU 6.1.14.101. See:

Retrospect Supported Devices - HP 1760 SAS

Great. Things may be looking up: See this post today by Robin Mayoff (in one of the Retrospect Windows forums, of course):

Next Retrospect 8 bugfix release to read older backup sets

This is the best news I have heard in a long time. The ability to read older backup sets, plus reliability, is exactly what we need to make the switch.
