kennethaj
Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me out with an issue. We are currently running Retrospect Multi-server version 7.5.387 on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, with a hotfix version 7.5.14.102 which was applied on 1/4/2010. Previous to this hotfix version, an update/hotfix (unknown version) was applied mid-December 2009, however it was somehow applied automatically (without an admin kicking off the update). Since the mid-december update, the issue we have is that all files are being backed up regardless of whether we do a Recycle backup or a Normal backup. During troubleshooting, we discovered that the archive bits of each file are not being cleared after the backup jobs complete. The result being that we end up backing up all files (about 1.5TB) every time a backup is executed. The logs and configurations confirm that a recycle backup runs as expected. The subsequent daily backups which are configured as "Normal" continue to backup all files, when they should only back up changed files. Anyone have any ideas? thanks,Ken
rhwalker
Retrospect doesn't rely on archive bits; the decision to back up is made based on what is already in Retrospect's database (the backup set) and the backup settings. Check your backup settings. It's also remotely possible that there is some corruption in your config (settings) file. Try moving it away somewhere, and restoring a copy from a backup prior to December. If you don't have a backed up copy, then, after you move the config file away (with Retrospect not running), it will ask you for a license code, etc., because all settings are gone. Re-enter the license code and set up a small test backup of some small defined "subvolume" (so that Retrospect won't have to scan the entire volume during your test), then, when finished, do a normal backup again of that test subvolume. If the test works (nothing backed up a second time), then you know it's something in your old settings (perhaps corruption). If the test fails, then you know its something about the December update. See also page 245 of the Retrospect Users Guide regarding the Archive Attribute, and check your setting: Retrospect Users Guide Russ
