MAlexander
I created a disk based media set with a password and SimpleCrypt. For a while this worked fine, then after I stopped and relaunched the Retrospect console one more time, it no longer accepted my password. I'm quite sure I'm using the correct password, but it claims it is not correct. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? The password contains a "#" character, is that a problem? What is the legal character set for passwords? I presume that this media set is history and I'll have to abandon it. Does anyone have any alternative? I'm running version 8.1 build 626 on a early 2009 Mac Pro running 10.5.8. Both the console and the server are on the same machine.
Tree
Check the User Manual for a list of acceptable characters in passwords. I'm sure there must be a section. Oh, and this is perhaps more important, please let all of us know when you have located a User Manual! We've been looking for a year. jonnybrad2001
I've encounted this same issue several times, using just Restrospect password, no dodgy characters, just letters and numbers. Reformated and restarted one disk, but reluctent to do so again as it builds up history on the disk.
Maser
I reported (and was able to reproduce) some weird password problems with media sets that I don't want to necessarily disclose publically because I (personally) think it's a "security issue". However, I will say -- if you are having problems with passwords, try unlocking the sets *after* you've left the console running a few minutes. Don't try unlocking the sets immediately after firing up the console. That may help here...

Maser
Security by obscurity is no security. Russ Well, yes -- that's why I'm giving EMC the chance to fix this issue rather than disclose it on a public forum. I could see it them not classifying it as a security issue, but that could be up to them how they want to categorize it. But it's a "bug" either way...
