jbuckner
I've been trying to restore some deleted files from a backup and Retrospect keeps crashing and nothing gets recovered. The client is Windows 2003 Server and the engine is on a PowerMac G5. We are using an LTO3 ARCvault 12 tape drive. I've tried selecting less files and more files, but it keeps crashing. Any suggestions to help me figure this out? Here's what is output to the console when it crashes. I don't see any CrashReporter logs generated from these crashes. 1/21/10 5:10:48 PM com.retrospect.RetroEngine[595] #3> 1/21/10 5:10:48 PM com.retrospect.RetroEngine[595] lmNeeded: memory pool missing, needed = 236, nsp->start = 1620967936, nsp->end = -2138801664, nsp->count = -2086207488, nsp->flags = 0x4000000 1/21/10 5:10:48 PM com.retrospect.RetroEngine[595] #3> LmGet: ndex = 0 < 1 1/21/10 5:10:48 PM com.retrospect.RetroEngine[595] Assertion failure at "elem.cpp-1084", on threadID 0xF1495000 1/21/10 5:10:48 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.retrospect.RetroEngine[595]) Exited with exit code: 255 1/21/10 5:10:48 PM com.retrospect.RetroEngine[1311] #3> DLLoadLib: no id resource in "/Library/Application Support/Retrospect/RetrospectEngine.bundle/Contents/MacOS/libretrores.dylib", skipDyloCheck 0x1 1/21/10 5:10:48 PM com.retrospect.RetroEngine[1311] #2> Command line is /Library/Application Support/Retrospect/RetrospectEngine.bundle/Contents/MacOS/RetroEngine 1/21/10 5:10:51 PM com.retrospect.RetroEngine[1311] dag service: client connected. 1/21/10 5:10:51 PM com.retrospect.RetroEngine[1311] dag service: client connected. rhwalker
Others have reported similar problems with PPC Retrospect 8 - search these forums. I think that you need to work with EMC Retrospect support to help them track down the cause of these PPC Retrospect 8 problems because it doesn't seem the type of issue that is going to be resolved in these user-to-user forums: Contact EMC Retrospect support It would be helpful, though, to have some details: (1) Version of Retrospect engine (8.x.x) and console (8.x.x) (2) Version of Mac OS X on the PPC running the engine (10.x.x) (3) Type of SCSI HBA card, firmware revision, .kext driver version Have you tried restoring the file locally? Can you restore other non-Windows files locally? Can you restore to a Mac Retrospect client? What version of Retrospect Windows client on the Windows 2003 Server? jbuckner
1) The versions of Retrospect Console and Engine are both 8.1.626.1. 1a) The Windows Client is running Retrospect Client 7.6.107 2) The Engine machine is running OS X 10.5.8 with all updates as of 1-22-10 3) We are running an ATTO ExpressPCIProUL4D SCSI card I did some more testing and I'm able to restore files from both our Mac clients and Linux clients just fine. I tested another Windows Client and Retrospect Engine is also crashing on that one. I'm going to do some more searching of the forums and I'll also contact EMC support. Thank you for your response, hopefully I can resolve this issue.
rhwalker
Ok. Then, assuming that you've got recent/updated firmware and driver for the ATTO card, you are doing everything right. Looks like you are hitting one of the Retrospect 8 PPC bugs. See, for example, this recent thread: http://forums.dantz.com/showtopic.php?tid/32972/ Russ
