johncharnock77
Hi - I rebooted my mac and since it has re started my external USB drives have gone from my sources. I use one of these to back up to - how do I add it back to the sources? I am sure it should see them automatically. Build
CallMeDave
my external USB drives have gone from my sources You'll need to be more complete with your configuration information. - Are the USB drives directly connected to the Engine host machine? - Do the USB drives show up on the Desktop of the Engine host machine? - Does the boot drive of the Engine host machine show up in Sources? - Are there any other drives locally connected to the Engine host machine? Do they show up in the Sources list? - Is the Console application running on the same machine as the Engine? - Have you tried starting/stopping the Engine from the System Preferences pane? - Had you ever restarted before? Have you restarted again? Dave
AntonRang
Had you logged in to the machine since restarting it? USB drives don't (always?) mount until a user logs in. You can enable mounting at startup time by typing sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/autodiskmount AutomountDisksWithoutUserLogin -bool true (all on one line)
rhwalker
And, depending on whether your Mac is an xServe and the version of the xServe, you might have the panel lock switch in the "locked" position, which can prevent SCSI and USB drives from mounting. Sigh. Been there, done that, with a remote reboot via VPN that left drives unmounted. Russ
