NWTF
HI- This is a pretty remedial question, I am sure, but here it goes... Am trying to conduct backups with our new VXA drive and have run into problems with too much data, and not enough tape! Is there a way to work around grabbing all data from the client machines? Our department is producing a lot of hi-res magazine and publishing work and I only need to back up certain folders and files from each machine. I cannot seem to get Retrospect to only grab selected files from each machine. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! --Jeff
sgripman
I have a client who gets around ths problem by requiring users to save all their important files in designated "documents" folder. The backup then grabs that folder and preferences. This approach is exposed to greater human error vulnerability e.g. users failing to save to the specified folder. Because applications are not backed up, it also presupposes that installers are available for every application on every user's hard drive. The client is comfortable with those trade-offs, though and a week's worth of backups always fits on the available media. I assume you're taking advantage of compression, too. That won't double your storage, particularly with the types of documents you have to backup, but it can't hurt. Good luck!
