portishead
I have just installed v8.1 Trial. Deciding if I want to get this over 6.1 Anyway, my local drives, and an Xserve RAID all show up fine, but I have 4 fibre channel drives that show up on my desktop, but do not show up under "source". All 4 of these drives are using MetaSAN. Thanks!
Mayoff
I don't know anything about MetaSAN.... What file system was used to format the FC disks? Are they Mac OS Extended? Does the finder see them as a local disk or as network disks?
portishead
Thanks for the reply. I formatted them on a mac. They are HFS+ (Mac OS Extended). They are connected through SAN software. They show up as local drives. The previous version of Retrospect worked fine with them. Maybe I am not adding them correctly.
Mayoff
It is strange that Retrospect can not see the device. Try getting a debug log for this: http://kb.dantz.com/article.asp?article=9718&p=2 set Volumes Logging to
portishead
Unfortunately, I went to do a reinstall of the software, but now nothing is working. I cannot input my trial License, and when I go to "Select New" it asks for a server address and password which I shouldn't need if I'm setting it up on a local machine. I followed the directions to uninstall, and I installed everything the same. Any ideas? My trial license just started yesterday, so it should still be good. Thanks. Mayoff
Not sure why the reinstall is failing. Probably call tech support and we can help directly
CallMeDave
when I go to "Select New" it asks for a server address and password which I shouldn't need if I'm setting it up on a local machine. Well sure, of course it should! The Retrospect Console application needs to communicate with the Retrospect Engine daemon. The Console has no idea what machine the Engine is on; only its human master knows that. From the Getting Started Guide: The Retrospect console will ... automatically look for a Retrospect engine running on the same computer. If one is present and running, the Retrospect console will connect automatically. If a local Retrospect engine is not present, you may add one or more remote Retrospect engines by clicking the plus (+) button in the bottom bar. This seems to be true for the very first time you run the console after an install. On subsequent times, if you delete the local Engine you'll need to add it again. No idea what you mean by "uninstall" but it sounds as if you just need to tell the Console where your preferred Engine is running. You can use the machine's actual IP address (best if it's a static number and not assigned by DHCP) or you can use localhost or 127.0.0.1. It's a shame that EMC uses "Engine" in the literature but then uses "Server" in the program itself. Gaaak.
