Get "No License Available (-685)" when trying to add a source

Recommended Posts

I thought that if the engine was running on a workstation I could back up a mounted server volume. We're running a minimal Tiger server in a home environment with two networked workstations. Unfortunately, the additional cost of upgrading to a server edition or Retrospect is nearly the cost of the server itself and therefor not justified.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I thought I had no choice but to back up the server volume by adding the server as a client, but the server volume doesn't show up in my Sources list. I'd be happy to back up the server volume as a mounted volume on the workstation's desktop if I could get the server volume to show up in my Sources list. Any suggestions?

The presence of a volume on a Desktop won't help Retrospect. The Retrospect engine deals with remote volumes at a lower level then the Finder.

To add a remote share point, use the "Add Share..." button in the drop-down sheet that you get when you click the giant candy "+" icon in the Sources screen.

One way would be to shut down the OS X Server system and reboot it in Firewire target disk mode; then connect it to your system running Retrospect with a firewire cable so that the server's volumes are mounted on the desktop of the system running Retrospect. You should then see those volumes in your Retrospect source list.
