Problems creating backup - groom & catalog not working

Recommended Posts

For several months, the Retrospect backup script I have been using has been nonoperational. Grooming results in errors, and rebuilding of the Catalog file does not work.

I have an external 1 TB drive that is connected via USB to my computer. It is full of Retrospect backups.

Can you explain how I can retrieve the latest backup image off the drive to my C hard drive and wipe-out the old backups so I can start from scratch.

The last few errors that I received, for de-bugging purposes, are as follows:

Thank you. My external hard drive is full. Do I need to delete all the files before performing the operation you suggested? If I delete all but one file, will it be a snapshot of my C hard drive or an incremental change log?

Thank you!

Any time you delete an .rdb file you have corrupted the backup set and it will never provide you with the data for a full restore.

You delete all or nothing.

If you don't have enough disk space to start a new set, then you may need to erase the backup disk and start over.

  • 10 months later...

I have v7.6.123

Try this:

Open "Configure"

click on "Backup Sets"

highlight (click on) the Backup Set

click on "Properties"

click on "Options" tab

click on Media "Action"

select "Recycle"

This should erase the external media (hard drive?) and the catalogue set, and will retain the script and backup schedules.

Then do a a full backup:

Open “Activity Monitor†- “Scheduledâ€

click on “Edit Scriptâ€

click on “Wizard Mode†(if not already in)

click on “Back up now with these settingsâ€
