Sochet
hello there, We just about to purchase an Add-On Open Files backup, but before we spent $599, we like to know, have anyone use Open Files backup? Does it do what it said. ( Open File Backup* capability means you can back up line-of-business applications such as databases, e-mail, CRM, accounting, ERP, Web sites, and directories while live and in operation.) Can it backup an open SQL database. Many Thank. Sochet
AmyJ
Yes, the Open File backup feature can backup your line of business applications and your open SQL server. Dantz recommends that you perform a full backup of your line of business servers while all applications are closed before using Open File Backup for the first time. Although Open File Backup is designed to back up line of business servers while they are up and running, closing the servers down prior to performing the first backup adds an extra degree of safety. For the best results, schedule subsequent backups of up and running line of business servers for off-peak times.
Monty
I downloaded trial version of 6.0 and am currently testing the product to see how it works. You mention the open file agent will back up SQL active databases. When I do a preview of files in a directory that stores the mdf files, the databases that are being used (master in particular) are not even visible. If I shut down SQL services then the files show up. If I back up the directory and then do a restore the files that are active are not there. I called tech support and the guy I talked to said he had never heard of this. At that time I had Retrospect installed on NT4.0 with service pack 4 and he suggested I put it on more recent version. I have since installed Retrospect on 2000 Pro and having the same problem. How can you even tell if Open File is working? Any suggestions?
