First time problem!

I am running Express v.5.6 on a Windows 2000 Professional platform and having problems. I have a Lite-On (model 24012B with 5S5A firmware and Lite-On CD-RW Driver 1.53) I get to the prompt to "proceed" on the screen titled Backup Set A.

When I click on "Proceed" it asks if I want to really use Backup set A and in RED it says Erasing all contents? If I click on OK I get a "Couldn't erase disc, error code -112 can't erase/format media"

OK? so what next?

The minimum firmware required for compatibility is: 5S54, which can be obtained from www.liteonit.com. You may need to contact the vendor to determine if your version of firmware (5S5A) is newer or older then 5S54.

Retrospect requires that backup CDs are not formatted prior to use with Retrospect. Retrospect will perform any necessary formatting when the backup operation begins. When using a CD for the first time with Retrospect, it is best to use new, never before used CD-RW's. You will not be able to reuse CD-R disks.

Retrospect may not be able to access a CD-RW disk that has been formatted with DirectCD.

Given that CDRWs are reusable, I don't think it's reasonable to expect/require new & unformatted CDRWs. If Retrospect needs to reformat the CDRWs for its own purposes fine--throw up a dialog telling/asking the user what you want to do and reformat the disk. Or (less desirable) tell me how to erase them in advance or using another tool so that Retrospect can use them.

Chris - FWIW, I've used Rewriteable CDRW's. When specifying 'Recylce', Retrospect does first erase the media.

The CDRW erase utility in any of the CD burning apps should also do the job - although, I've found you need to do a complete format, not just logical.

I've also found that once formatted Direct CD or InCD, erasing/reformatting them makes them unuseable [in anything].
