backup to bootable DVD-R

Recommended Posts

My friend just got an iMac and I'm trying to setup disaster recovery procedure.

Is it possible to use Retrospect to clone the OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) installation to a DVD-R disk for disaster recovery purposes (bootable)?

Thanks for any comments.

Not at this time. Disaster Recovery instructions are in the Knowledgebase and the User's Guide. We do hope to include a way to make a bootable CD in a future release, but at this time this isn't possible.

I did a search on "disaster recovery" in the Retrospect 5 (OS X) knowledgebase and it came up empty. I also looked for tutorials but they came up blank too. I don't have a users guide because we haven't decided to purchase Retrospect yet. From reading the news group I understand there is a way to perform disaster recovery from DVD to single volume but I would like to see a write up of the steps necessary. Can you direct me to a link or document that explains how this is done?

Thanks much.

Here's the Knowledgebase entry:

http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=27186

You can also download the PDF User's Guide here:

Look over in the right-hand "downloads" column and you'll see Product Documentation.

Hope this helps!
