denno
I created 2 different media sets for backups to disk. They are both listed in the Media Sets view with green checkmarks. When I verify them everyhting looks fine. I created a script to use one of the media sets as a destination. Everything looks complete with the script. However when I look in Activities to see if my script ran overnight, it has a flashing media set question mark icon and the status is "Needs media." How do I fix this? This new version is much less intuitive than the prior one.
Mayoff
What does it say under the members tab of the media set? What is displayed when you click the button to select media?
denno
Media Set>Members: 1-Daily Backup When I select media: Select folder 1-Daily Backup If I navigate to the 1-Daily Backup folder on my backup drive and Add it, nothing happens. Mayoff
Are you able to run a verify script against that media set? Does it read data from the disk? The members summary screen will show you how much free space Retrospect things is available. Is it accurate?
denno
The media set is on a Drobo. The Finder reports that capacity as 16TB because that's how it's set up even though all that space isn't in use. In the finder it shows as 1TB in use & 15237GB available. In Retrospect, one media set on that drive that has 1 member shows capacity and free space as 15TB. Another media set that somehow now has 2 members shows 30474GB capacity and free. johncharnock77
I am glad its not only me having this problem I am on the verge of going back to v6.00 - I though I would give it one more try - perfect back up first time - next time around it says it needs media selecting media still gives same error - is that more or less the same as you ? Mayoff
What about the verify? Does it run?
johncharnock77
Verify will not run on mine :confused2:
Mayoff
What happens? If verify is failing, then the catalog may be having a hard time finding the backup media. I would suggest a catalog rebuild. That will probably fix most of these issues.

denno
is there a fix for this?
johncharnock77
I resolved my issue by moving the media to another device and so far it seems Ok although still having general backup issues all of the time.
swalker
I ran into this too & just gave up. Try again next version. Too many issues - I have to make sure I get some solid backups of our machines again before I return to play. I'm still hopeful, but not in the short term. denno
I don't see why it would need a rebuild. The problem happens with a brand new script and media set. I created a different script and media set that backs up to an external hard drive that works fine. The common thread seems to be media sets that are on a Drobo. Are you aware of any issues with Retrospect and Drobo? Also, how do I do a rebuild? It's not in the Quick Start Guide and I'm not seeing a full instruction manual anywhere. Mayoff
The video trainings will help with Rebuild details: http://kb.dantz.com/display/2n/_index1.asp?tab=opt5&r=0.1331533 I don't know about any specific bugs with Drobo but I know we have had trouble with Disk media sets reporting "disk full" when they are not. We are trying to understand those problems better so we can get them resolved.

denno
I am trying to rebuild my Media Set named "Backup". After I select the Disk Member Folder "1-Backup", there is nothing listed in the 'Select Disk Media set member' window that appears next. CallMeDave
Are you aware of any issues with Retrospect and Drobo? Drobos are odd little beasts. Robin, has QA tested with these as Disk Media Set Members? Perhaps there is an issue. Dave
Mayoff
When doing the rebuild, don't open the 1-folder. You want to highlight the folder then select it to proceed with the rebuild.
denno
that's what I did--the step _after_ selecting the folder is where the window is blank. (probably becasue the backup has bver actually run??)
Mayoff
This may be a situation when a phone call to support will help us understand the problem better and narrow down a cause/solution. Phone support for 8.0 users is free right now.
denno
I just called and was told that tech support wasn't free. Can you please let me know how to contact.
Mayoff
Which number did you contact? You may have reached an individual who may not have been aware of all the 8.0 policies. All 8.0 users get free support for the first 30 days and most 8.0 editions are sold with unlimited technical support and updates. Because of the problems users are reporting with 8.0, we are being flexible with users that need phone support.
