PopeZaphod
I am running Retrospect 5.0.205 under Mac OS X Server 10.1.5 on a B&W G3 with an initio IN-9100-UW-MAC SCSI card and an APS DAT-IV drive. Many times the Backup Server script is running and no backups are occuring. I check Retrospect and it says that it is "waiting for media". The tape drive is connected, there is a tape in the drive with some data on it (say 3-4GB out of 20GB) that is a member of the correct backup set. When checking the configuration of the device, Retrospect sees it. When checking the backup set, it confirms the amount of data on the tape. When I restart the Backup Server, it is STILL waiting for media! I end up running a tape cleaner on the drive (sometimes more than once) and most of the time this allows the Backup Server to run. What I want to know is: (1) Is anyone else having this problem? and (2) Why is Retrospect identifying the drive and the tape in the drive in other parts of the program, but the Backup Server refuses to acknowledge this? Any help would be appreciated.
Guest
Hello, If cleaning the tape drive allows the commands and information to be sent correctly between the tape drive and the computer, then it sounds like a minor drive or communication problem. You should also be sure that the tape in the drive is the correct one, and that it's not full.
denniskane
I just migrated and had the same problem. I clicked on the Backup Sets tab on the Backup Server status window. Discovered I forgot to move my catalog to a location where Retro would find it. I wouldn't think that this would be your problem, but that's what happened to me.
