5.0 takes 12 hours to backup one client

I just installed Retrospect 5.0 on an Xserve and client Macs. Backup computer is still using OS 9.2 and all clients are on OS X. When backing up at night the system takes a full 12 hours to back up 1 GB on a desktop client and doesn't get through the entire client. It does not give me any errors or run out of tape, it just seems to be very slow in getting through and then runs out of time after its allotted 12 hours. It happens on various clients, not just one specific. We were previously using 4.2 without troubles.
