silexmulti
I keep getting Error 519 on three iMacs that used to work before. All have been upgraded to OS10.5 and the latest OS maintenance updates, two use bootcamp and one uses Parallel desktop. What's strange is that I can copy big file just fine thru the Finder between those computers on the same network links use for backups. I've read the official fixes, deinstalled anti-virus and other backup software to make sure nothing is interfering. Still it doesn't work, be it in programmed or immediate backup script. twickland
More information, please. What versions of the Retrospect app, Retrospect Client, and Retrospect Driver Update are you using? What computer is being used as the backup server and what system version is it running? What type of backup script are you running, and when during the backup process does the 519 error occur? During initial scanning, during copying, or during comparing? How often does the error occur?

twickland
For starters, make sure that the OS X preference to not back up ACLs is selected. The version of the Retrospect app you're using is a couple versions behind. The installed version of Driver Update is listed at the Status tab in About Retrospect. The latest versions can be found here. Given the problems people have reported with client versions 6.2.x, I'd be inclined to avoid updating your clients for the moment. The amount of RAM in the backup computer is rather skimpy. This may slow things down and could cause problems when scanning and backing up large volumes with many files, but probably wouldn't cause problems right at the start of the scanning. twickland
For starters, make sure that the OS X preference to not back up ACLs is selected. Where is that pref located? In Preferences from the Retrospect menu, or Special> Preferences in the Retrospect Directory. I have 1.0.107 under Device Access Version But nothing at all under Driver Update Version, is this normal? Should I fix this? Each Retrospect Driver Update (RDU) file is intended mostly to provide access to new hardware devices, but also includes bug fixes. This file resides in the same folder as the Retrospect app. You should install the latest RDU when you update the application itself, and it's also generally a good idea to download and install the newest RDU any time one becomes available. silexmulti
Hmm, for one thing, the ACL prefs I can't locate that pref in my Retrospect prefs. The closest thing I can see is when I go into the OSX section, I can enable/disable Privileges warning. As for the latest RDU, I did DL and put it in the Retrospect application app as indicated. Now Retrospect is at 6.1.126 and the driver is at 6.1.15.101 And I still get those errors all the time. It connects to the computer. Can see the Macintosh HD it needs to backup, but the I get the Net Retry error all the time and no backup is made. Since Retrospect is working rather fine on other computers on the same server and network, and all the iMac that I have problems with have Parallel Desktop Installed, I'm starting to wonder if this might be related... As I said above, you should download the updated application version from the same EMC web page that you got the new RDU. The current version of the Retrospect app is 6.1.230. There's a good chance that this update will solve your problems.
silexmulti
I've upgraded the Application to the latest avaible on the website. Made sure my clients were up to the latest version. I can also now see then ACL backup pref and I've unchecked the box. But I still get those Net retries on all my problem computers... What should I do now?
CallMeDave
What should I do now? First, document the version(s) of the software you are using. "latest available" is unspecific, and won't help future readers of this thread. Then, discover if the issue is with the application, or with the client software. Are you still using version 6.1.130 of the client software? - When the 519 error is received, what text is displayed in the Status field of the Retrospect Client application for the effected machine?
