ross.logan
I've been evaluating a copy of Retrospect Multi Server for my network, and have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with. Like many other posts I've seen here, we're running in to issues with the ISOs for Disaster Recovery being too large. We are a Microsoft Partner so all of our machines are installed with MSDN copies of Windows. I've used nLite to get the ISO sizes down, and that works great for my XP machines, but the 2k3 ones don't seem to like that. What happens if I buy Retrospect without the Disaster Recovery add-on? Can I still install a temporary copy of windows to a different directory and do a live restore? If the Disaster Recovery add-on doesn't work with MSDN copies of Windows, I'd rather spend the money on more open file backup licenses. Thanks! Mayoff
Most users use the Live Restore method for disaster recovery: http://kb.dantz.com/article.asp?article=9691&p=
ross.logan
Thanks! I've actually been using that method also. My question though is, does that method still require the Disaster Recovery add-on, since it doesn't use a Retrospect DR CD? Thanks! -r
Mayoff
Live restore does NOT require the add-on
