Problem reparing catalog file

Recommended Posts

Hello.

Ive found Retrospect to be extremely unstable and crashing a lot due to (maybe) ACL and weird memory allocation problems.

We are archiving out data from the same directory and then after its on tape, its deleted from the disk.

Dealing with all snapshots when restoring is a sheer pain and takes much time. Here to the real problem,

Here is the specs.

Xserve1,1

Dual-Core Inten Xenon

8GB memory

Restrospect 6.1

ATTO Express PCI UL5D SCSI-Card.

HP Ultrium 3-SCSI LTO TAPE

When backing up, we get this error.

Retrospect(19729,0xa000eca0) malloc: *** set a breakpoint in szone_error to debug

Retrospect(19729,0xa000eca0) malloc: *** vm_allocate(size=1543507968) failed (error code=3)

It finally crashes the application and the catalog file needs to be rebuild.

Now when im rebuilding the catalog file from tape, it reports this.

Internal consistency check failed

Assertion check at "elem.c-918"

(Quit).

The log file says.

Bad backup set header found (0xdcbd2955 at 482431749).

Is all my data gone?

It is a archive set with 5 tapes.

Put the cleaning tape in and tried again.

Got this error message:

Internal consistency check failed

Assertion check at "elem.c-928"

(Quit).

and in the log

Bad backup set header found (0xdcbd2955 at 482431749).

Note that the "elem.c" has gone up from 918 to 928. Does anyone know what it means?

Is it impossible to get support for your products?

I tried to get the local support number from your pdf.

http://www.emc.com/collateral/contact-us/h4165-csc-phonelist-ho.pdf

And,,, its funny. Sweden has the same numbers as the one to South Africa.

Sweden is not South Africa.

How can I get a refund for the money I spend on your software?

Im not keeping this if i cant get support.
