reuiogfhns
I have a variety of folders that were recently backed up as a "normal" backup by Retrospect. Since then those folders were deleted from the computer where they were stored, new "normal" backups were performed in to the same backup set. Now I need to restore some of those folders. Unfortunately, when I browse the old snapshots that should contain those old folders, they are not visible. Instead, it appears that only the contents of the latest snapshot are displayed. Are snapshots not behaving correctly, am I not doing something correctly, or am I not able to browse snapshots as they appeared (including any subsequently deleted files and folders) when the snapshots were created? NOTE: I can't search for the missing folders because, although I know precisely where the folders sat, I don't know their precise names. twickland
Unfortunately, when I browse the old snapshots that should contain those old folders, they are not visible. Instead, it appears that only the contents of the latest snapshot are displayed. At each backup session, Retrospect replaces the older snapshot in the backup set catalog with the latest version. However, all of these older snapshots may be retrieved from the backup media. When you click on Immediate> Restore> Restore from a backup, you will see a list of the current snapshots for whichever backup set you have highlighted. Click on "Add Snapshot" to locate and retrieve the snapshot from the desired time period.
reuiogfhns
I'm sorry, I probably wasn't being clear. I can superficially access all the old snapshots, they simply don't show what I expect them to show. That is, they don't represent the state of the backed up machine at the time it was backed up. Instead, folders that were subsequently deleted from the backed-up computer do not show up in any of the older snapshots I've looked at. More specifically, the timestamps on the files that do show up are consistent with the snapshot date, but anything deleted since the snapshot was recorded is not present. It is as if deleting something from the computer and backing it up again retroactively removed that item from the snapshots.
CallMeDave
It is as if deleting something from the computer and backing it up again retroactively removed that item from the snapshots. Nope. Retrospect (on Mac OS) will not delete anything, ever, from the media. The _only_ way to remove data from media is by performing a Recycle operation; otherwise, Normal backups add to what's already present on the media, without removing things that don't match. And once Snapshots are created, they're not changed later. What are the exact steps you are taking here? Dave
