mvolansky
I have 2 computers where Win SBS is Retrospect backup server and the second one is a client on Win 2003 domain member and has SQL backup Add-on licence. SBS has USB attached drive where catalog and backup files are located. [color:green]I have upgraded Retrospect on Windows SBS from 7.5 to the recent available 7.6.111. The client has however ver. 7.6.106. I wonder if the diffrence in the last number matters. There are 2 daily jobs running from scheduled scripts. the one is daily full backup of the SBS and the second is full backup of the client. The problem is that the job on the client computer never finishes and keeps execution of one of the volumes of SQL server on it. It can hang on any of 8 SQL volumes, however the first script [color:green]job for SBS itself work more less well (why more/less because I do not see that exclusions actually work. Whatever I excluded backup still tries to access and brind sharing violations errors in the log report) Prior to 7.6 version I had backup finished most of time but sometimes backup server were loosing connectivity with the client. I could not troubleshoot the problem using all the recommended approaches, so I upgraded it to the lates available 7.6. Here is the summary of the configuration and the last log from the hanging backup job: [color:blue]License manager Info Version Status Small Business Server Premium 7.6.111 Backup Clients (Unlimited Clients) 7.6.111 0 used Backup Server Clients (1-pack 7.6.111 1 used, 0 available Open File Backup not licensed User Initiated Restore not licensed Storage Devices (All devices) 7.6.111 SQL Database Backup (SQL Backup Add-on) 7.6.111 1 used, 0 available Exchange Database/Mailbox Backup (Exchange Backup Add-on) 7.6.111 1 used, 0 available Clients Type: Windows backup client Version: 7.6.106 Driver update and hotfix ver. 7.6.1.101 [color:red]Activity Monitor One execution is running and one execution is waiting --> that takes forever untill I kill the job, kill the process on the client and restart it again. Mayoff
Your post contained all of your Retrospect License codes. This is a very bad thing (and against the forum rules). I have deleted those codes from your post so that every user of the forum (and on google) will hopefully not have access to your Retrospect licenses numbers. Mayoff
What happens if you run Retrospect installed directly on the client computer for a local backup test to see if the backup hangs?

mvolansky
Did you mean to have Retrospect server installed on the client machine? There is client only there. Sorry I do not see the point to have 2 backup servers instead of server/client. Please clarify
Mayoff
Temporarily install a 2nd copy of Retrospect onto the client computer and attempt a backup to a temporary backup set. You are trying to see if the problem happens only when reading data over the network or if it happens with a local backup too.
mvolansky
thanks, Is there licensing issue? Can I install it without extra server license? The current one is for SBS and the client machine is just Win2003 St. Is there difference and will it still go?
Mayoff
You can download a trial license code from our website that will work on the 2003 server with SQL/Exchange.
mvolansky
can I reallocate SQL backup Adds-on license from one server to another, say in case if I do not need it on the server where it was originally applied? The way it works no is Retrospect server sees DBs of SQL server on the client computer only, but I'd like to let it see SQL DBs on the backup server itself and forget of the SQL on the client. thanks Edited September 5, 2008 by Guest
