robertdana
I'm using 7.6 to transfer snapshots from a large disk backup set (1.5TB) to a new LTO tape library. On the third tape (3-LTO A), there was a -102 trouble communicating error. Probably a SCSI glitch- the cable is suspect, and I've ordered a replacement. Anyway, this was less than 5% into the tape, but Retrospect prompted for a new tape - 4-LTO A. I quit the transfer, thinking I would restart it and it would pickup with 3-LTO A. However, when I try to restart the transfer, Retrospect always prompts me to insert 4-LTO A. 3-LTO A does not appear to be marked as missing- everything appears OK, but Retrospect won't use it. What's going on? Is there a way to make this tape valid again, short of rewriting the whole backup set?
Mayoff
You can do a catalog rebuild starting with tape 2. Don't insert tape 3 when it asks. Stop the rebuild. Then erase tape #3.
robertdana
Thanks. However, when I try to start with Tape 2, the rebuild warns me before starting that the tape does not contain a copy of the catalog and therefore all previous tapes (tape 1) will be marked as missing. So I need to recatalog all the tapes (except for 3)?
Mayoff
For some reason the "fast catalog rebuild" option was turned off when you did the original backup. Because of this, you must rebuild tape 1 and 2 and then stop the rebuild (start with 1 not 2)
