problem 'no removable disk found'

I have bought a new Lacie externa hard drive. I see it on my desktop (10.2.8 OSX, Retrospect 5.1) and can put data on it. In the new back up script Retrospect recognizes the disk (it even creates a 'back up set A file' on it). However when it runs the daily script it says 'no removable disk found' and it doesn't see any drive in config/devices. Can anybody tell me how to solve this problem? May be upgrade to 6.1?
