Errors during Backup

Recommended Posts

I'm using Retrospect 7.6 on Windows to backup several Windows PCs and one Mac iBook 10.5.4. I've just done a full backup and got a number of errors:

File "Macintosh HD:Library:FileMaker Server:Admin:admin-master-tomcat:logs:catalina.2008-08-30.log": different data size (set: 152,217, vol: 208,410)

File "Macintosh HD:private:var:db:SystemEntropyCache": didn't compare

File "Macintosh HD:private:var:log:asl.db": different data size (set: 8,400, vol: 8,880)

File "Macintosh HD:private:var:log:system.log": different data size (set: 3,034, vol: 4,231)

File "Macintosh HD:private:var:log:cups:error_log": different data size (set: 1,133,317, vol: 1,160,053)

File "Macintosh HD:private:var:log:samba:log.smbd": different data size (set: 1,888,421, vol: 1,956,788)

File "Macintosh HD:private:var:run:smbd.pid": didn't compare

File "Macintosh HD:private:var:samba:connections.tdb": didn't compare

File "Macintosh HD:private:var:samba:unexpected.tdb": didn't compare

File "Macintosh HD:private:var:spool:cups:cache:job.cache": didn't compare

File "Macintosh HD:private:var:spool:cups:cache:remote.cache": didn't compare

File "Macintosh HD:Users:andrew:Library:Preferences:ByHost:com.apple.iCal.helper.3BF29831-46AD-56A7-B43F-F7849E1E41EF.plist": didn't compare

Just wondering if these are things I should be concerned about and how to prevent these errors in the future?

Thanks,

Andrew

No

and how to prevent these errors in the future?

For some, shut down services that are busy caching files and writing logs (such as FileMaker Server on the iBook).

For others, such as system.log, there will always be the chance that entries will be added by the operating system between the time Retrospect copied it and the time Retrospect goes back to compare, so you'll usually get a report about it.
