RogerM
Help! I'm trying to 'duplicate' to a new FAT32 usb drive from OS 10.4 server and I don't get the "Ignore privileges on this volume" checkbox on this external drive. Is it important to de-select "ignore privileges" if I don't need a bootable drive? Is it due to the FAT32 partition/format? thanks
Mayoff
That checkbox is for Macintosh volumes, not Windows volumes. You can not successfully copy a bunch of Macintosh files to a FAT32 disk. It will be slow and get errors. It may also result in data corruption depending on the type of files you are copying. You should reformat the disk for Mac OS Extended.
rhwalker
If you REALLY want to duplicate a FAT32 volume and preserve the FAT32 structure, then a better way would be to use Disk Utility, create a FAT32 sparseimage of the volume, then create a new target volume from the sparseimage.
