MacWright
If retrospect encounters "trouble reading: tape name (0), error 206 (drive reported a failure: dirty heads, bad media, etc)" during a compare. How does retrospect handle this? will it recopy or compare during the next run of the script? Or, if it doesn't do anything what should I do when I encounter this ( other than: clean head, check connections etc) to ensure that the data was OK? rhwalker
will it recopy or compare during the next run of the script? No. If the error had occurred during the backup phase, as contrasted with the compare phase, it would not mark the file as backed up, and would do it again on the next run. Others have requested the ability to do a "compare only" phase to validate the snapshot; you might want to make such a feature request too. Or, if it doesn't do anything what should I do when I encounter this ( other than: clean head, check connections etc) to ensure that the data was OK? Change the tape. MacWright
thanks! this was a new tape, is there a convenient way to "redo" the last backup session within the same backup set? for example, tell Retrospect to ignore the last running of the script and start at the point in time before the last session? rhwalker
Not that I'm aware. However, you can do a "Recycle Backup" to cause Retrospect to forget the entire backup set contents and start over, or you can do a "new media" backup to move to a new tape.
