Mat
Hi Here is the method I use to change backup set every month. Tell me if I do anything wrong because I now get "heavily damaged" error notices: 1- I open retrospect and go to CONFIGURE->DEVICE 2-I select the fist LTO tape of the backup set B device and hit ERASE 3-I give it the same name back 4-I do it with the 3 tepas of the backup set 5-Then I go to AUTOMATE->SCRIPT 6-I select the script and choose EDIT 7-Then I add the Backup Set B and remove the Backup Set A is there anything wrong with this procedure? Mayoff
This should be okay. Do the backup set properties display the backup set as "empty" after the erase?
Mat
Yes, it clearly says EMPTY. Then should I rebuild?
Mayoff
This is the way it should look after the tape erase. Sounds like everything should work the way you want.
twickland
You can't rebuild a catalog from an erased tape, nor is there any need to do so. Your old data from that particular backup set is now gone. You will be starting fresh with your new backups to that backup set.
