JMBonn
If my Mac is in sleep mode, will a scheduled daily backup/duplication to an external Firewire Drive take place? I set my Script to run at 10 pm & sometimes my computer will be idle/in sleep mode at this hour. If not, is there a recommended work around? Retrospect v 6.1.138 / G5 Mac running OS 10.4.11 Many thanks! ...John
Mayoff
Retrospect can not backup when in sleep mode. You must wake the computer first.

Set the energy saver preference pane to wake the computer just before the backup. Another, more elaborate approach to use the freeware WakeOnLan utility to send the "magic packet" to sleeping computers just before their backup was provided in these forums here: http://forums.dantz.com/ubbthreads/showf...92416#Post92416 Russ
JMBonn
Just returned home from an evening shift & noted that Retrospect had indeed duplicated my Hard Drive as scheduled despite the computer being asleep at 10 pm!! The Log detailed a complete duplication. Have now set the Energy Saver Pref Pane to wake the computer just before a scheduled backup...rather easy & seamless strategy! Thanks for the tip! ...John
CallMeDave
It's unlikely that you machine was actually asleep when the time for Retrospect's script was reached. As Mayoff noted, Retrospect can't wake a sleeping Mac. When Retrospect 5.0.x was first being developed, Apple (around 10.1.5) did not have an API for a third party application to wake a sleeping Mac. A number of years later, Apple finally provided developers with an API to wake a sleeping Macintosh (IIRK it was with 10.3). At that time, the only company I ever saw who was taking advantage of the feature were the smarty pants at Rogue Amoeba (makers of the indispensable AudioHijackPro). Even today, I don't know any other software that's using anything like their "ScheduleHelper" tool. I do hope EMC takes advantage of the Mac OS X feature; but for now, you'll have to use Apple Energy Saver setting to make sure you machine is awake.
