Stopping Immediate Backup Execution

How can I stop an Immediate Backup (without a hard reset) if the Stop button in the Executing tab of the Activity Monitor doesn't work? The Retrospect status bar at the bottom of the Retrospect window keeps saying "One execution running..."

If I try to exit Retrospect in an attempt to stop execution, the "Exiting..." status persists for a long time. Retrospect appears to continue accessing my external hard drive where backups are deposited (access light blinking on drive).

I'm testing scripts and want to end ones that take too long, start at an inconvenient time, etc.

I'm using Retrospect 7.5.387 in Windows Server 2003 (all updates installed) on a Dell Precision 340 with 1 GB RDRAM. Windows Task Manager says 0% CPU and 397 MB page file is being used when I try to exit Retrospect, and Retrospect.exe and retrorun.exe processes continue.

It's trying to build the catalog for whatever was completed. Do you want to end up with a corrupted catalog from a forced quit?

By "long time" I mean more than two hours. A corrupted catalog for a script I'm testing but am not happy with is inconsequential as it will be deleted. What IS consequential is poor use of my work time waiting and waiting and waiting just so I can edit my script and try again.

I don't want to corrupt my server's system or application files with a hard reset. I can't even end the Retrospect.exe process in Task Manager to quit semi-gracefully that way.
