Disaster Recovery CD with Vista

Aloha,

I'm running the latest version of Retrospect 7.5.387 with Windows Vista 32 bit and just found out that I can't create a Recovery CD, is this correct?

Does anyone know why or if there will be an update to correct this?

I really thought this was one of the best features of Retrospect and now it's gone. I'm bummed (and I know I can go through all the stuff to reinstall it manually, but the CDs were nice).

Mahalo for any help,

Ken

As a sort of workaround for this on new machine installs, I install Vista, update and activate it, then make multiple copies of the system data to DVDs via Vista's backup utility (bad thing, the utility is only in Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate Vista editions.) These copies, I store separately from each other in a safe place. Should I need to restore a system, I boot Vista, stick in the restore DVD, then pull from Retrospect the rest.

Probably the best bet long term is if the Retrospect disaster restore DVD became a Windows PE image and copied all the necessary drivers (RAID, network) on a machine.

Mahalo mlts,

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I can't make any of these since this is our office computer and I only had Home Premium on it. I was appalled at the even more crippled version of windows backup it comes with, but hey, that's progress. The machine came with Norton Save and Restore, but it also won't make a recovery disk, probably due to Vista as well. Knowing what I know now, I would have never gotten Vista. We do have a RAID 1 operating, but I don't feel good unless I can back up everything as well. Anyway, if Vista is any indication of where Windows is going, I'm just going to convert to Mac's, which is what we use in our studio anyway. What is everyone thinking, oh I know, lets charge more and deliver less. Crazy. But luckily I'm not bitter. Anyway, thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it.

Aloha,

Ken
