voidptr
for some reason i can't manage to get Retrospect Express to restore NTFS security informations. the "Back up file security information from workstations" option has been selected during backup and a full snapshot restore ("restore an entire volume") has been performed. according to the properties of the snapshot (subject to be restored), security information has been backuped. nevertheless NTFS security informations/permissions have not been restored. is restoring NTFS security permissions available in Retrospect Express? how to configure Restrospect Express to restore the NTFS security information. thanks for any input on this issue. rhwalker
Versions (OS, Retrospect Express) and your computer hardware would be useful.
voidptr
thanks for your fast reply. i am running Restrospect Express 7.5 on Microsoft Windows XP Professional (SP2) using an Iomega REV as the backup device. the same problem (security information is not restored) also occurs with file backups. in other words, the problem doesn't seem to be related to the backup device in use. rhwalker
Once again, FULL VERSION INFORMATION would be helpful. Current Retrospect Express 7.5 is 7.5.387. voidptr
it's EMC Retrospect Express version 7.5.387 with Driver Update and Hot Fix version 7.5.11.100. in the meantime i downloaded the trial of Retrospect Professional to another machine and tried a file backup and restore. security permissions where successfully restored with Retrospect Professional (on this other computer). is it possible that restore security information is not implemented in Retrospect Express? Mayoff
To get security info back in express, you must use advanced restore mode and you must use "restore and entire volume/disk" option.
voidptr
during restore i selected "Switch to Advanced Mode" and then "Restore entire volume". the files restored do not contain the security information backuped but instead inherit the NTFS security information from the parent folder. in other words, restoring security information doesn't work. voidptr
there is a way to inspect which files are associated with (contained in) a particular snapshot. is it possible to have a look at the security information stored for files of a snapshots? in other words, can i find out which security information has been backuped by retrospect for particular files? this might help to determine if there already is a problem while storing security information (in the snapshot) during backup or if restoring the security information stored is the problem.
