keimel
I've moved the installation of 'desktop' to a server and installed 6.1.138 workgroup on the PowerPC G4 server running 10.4. There are two external USB disks connected to the server. One if the shared 'data' drive and the other is the 'backup' drive, to which I have retrospect backing up. I'm trying the first of the backups of about 350GB of data and it is going, but it is crawling. I calculated that at this rate, it will take 9 days to complete. It's rate is showing about 23MB/min (per minute, not per second). I've turned off verification and there's no compression occurring. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how to make this run faster? I'm actually getting better rates backing up to the Internet than I am using Retrospect to backup to a local USB attached drive. Suggestions welcome, thanks. Mayoff
Does the G4 have USB 2? I think it is USB 1. Maybe someone can confirm that. Try a different USB port. What is the speed writing to a different disk?
CallMeDave
> Does the G4 have USB 2? No. Apple never shipped a G4 with USB 2, only 1.1. Although you don't provide the model of "the PowerPC G4 server," if it's a tower you can probably find an inexpensive USB 2 PCI card that should help a lot.
