Dimetrodon
I've been using Retrospect 7.5 Express (+latest updates) for about 6 months in combination with a WD MyBook 500 GB external drive. About a week ago my system was hit with a virus, obliging me to perform a clean install of Win XP Pro. I also manually deleted all the Retrospect files from the external drive. I then installed Retrospect 7.5 Express anew, installed the updates, and attempted to set up the archiving again. Unfortunately, something went wrong with the new installation of Retrospect and now whenever I start Retrospect 7.5 Express, I rapidly get three different Retrospect dialogs competing for my attention. When I try to work through them, I always end up with the following error: "Can't continue using WD Backup Pro, error -843 (resource is in use by another operation)" The log shows this error: "The Backup Set member "1-WD Backup Pro" is corrupt or has data from another set." Rather than wade through FAQs and knowledge bases for the solution, I've been attempting to uninstall Retrospect 7.5 Express and start fresh with a new installation of the same. Unfortunately, Retrospect 7.5 Express somehow remembers the previous (corrupt?) configuration--despite being uninstalled--and I'm once again facing the same problems. I'm frustrated. As a first step, I would like to remove all traces of Retrospect 7.5 Express from my system. How do I do this? Thanks.
Mayoff
Just delete the backup set from configure>Backup Sets to start over, or you can try a catalog rebuild
Dimetrodon
Quote: Just delete the backup set from configure>Backup Sets to start over, or you can try a catalog rebuild Thanks for the suggestion, however I can't find any "Configure" menu option, and I checked the help docs regarding a catalog rebuild, however they state: "To recreate a Disk Catalog: Click Tools>Repair Catalog from the navigation bar." Unfortunately, I don't have any "Tool" option in my navigation bar. I don't get what's going on. My software version is: OEM Express Version 7.5.324 Driver Update and Hot Fix, version 7.5.6.195 I'm perplexed.
Dimetrodon
BTW, my navigation bar options are: "File" "Edit" "Run" "Window" "Help" Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks.
Dimetrodon
Again, I'd be happy if someone could just show me how to uninstall/remove all aspects of Retrospect 7.5 Express from my Win XP Pro system since it appears to be retaining corrupt config information that it reloads every time I uninstall, then reinstall the app. I checked the Knowledge Base, however it refers to install/uninstall features I don't appear to have on my version of Retrospect 7.5 Express. Is the persistent config info stashed in the System Registry? or someplace else? Mayoff
Catalog rebuild: http://kb.dantz.com/article.asp?article=8350&p=2 Configure is on the left side, not on the top.
Dimetrodon
Thank you, Mayoff. I didn't realize there was a hidden menu set on the left. I found it, and with some work I was able to schedule my backups. One of the snags I kept running into was that every time I started Retrospect, it immediately initiated an execution, which would then keep me locked out of making other changes. Once I figured out how to stop the execution, I had access to all the changes I needed to make. Thanks again.
