anderblit
Hi.....newbie here. One of my duplicate scripts keeps stalling shortly after initiating. I have several other scripts that run fine but this one keeps stalling. It is a script to duplicate the applications/documents and settings/programs of my main desktop computer. When it first stalled, I found some errors such as "snap shot too big" which on research related to open file backup. I unchecked duplicate open files and tried again. Same problem....stalled. Originally I was doing a duplicate of the entire disk, replacing if source is newer. Then I modified it to incorporate duplicating only files with a creation date after 7/18/07 (since this is the last time the full duplicate of this drive worked). But since this still was not working, I changed the following: I changed the script to duplicate just applications/programs/documents and settings/retrospect files (using the selector menu and selecting/adding just the applications/programs/documents and settings/retrospect files. I run duplicates of my data files on other nights....this specific script is just to do a monthly duplicate of the programs. But it keeps stalling (this script for the programs/c drive) . It first scans all the files on the source disk (C drive of my desktop) then scans files of the destiniation (NAS - Maxtor). But shortly after the actual process of duplicating starts....it stalls......just sits there stuck. I also get a message daily saying that I have not done a backup of my system since July 18th. I have been trying to tweek this script for several weeks now....nothing I have tried seems to correct the problem. Here is what I have for program/operating system/hardware: Retrospect Professional 7.5.387 driver update hotfix 7.5.11.100 Windows XP professional operating system Dell Precision 690 workstation External Backup drive is a Maxtor (Seagate) 1 TB Sjared Storage II drive (NAS) Any clues out there as to what I am doing wrong? Mayoff
When it stalls, what do you see on the screen? Have you tried writing to a new destination folder or even to a new folder on a different disk? Try turning off XP system Restore, it sometimes causes trouble. anderblit
Odd.... I posted a reply to Mayoff a couple of days ago but it never showed up on the board here. Anyhow.... as far as messages on the screen when it locks up....None. The only thing I see is the status lines near bottom of window that indicate how many total files it will copy, total size of what is being copied and how many files it has already copied, and what file name/path it is currently on. And when it locks up...it is just stuck at a file and number of files it has already copied. I have run this several times and it locks up in different points so it is not a specific file that is causing this. Why would changing the destination folder change this? I don't have a different disk to do this to. I do run numerous scripts from this desktop onto my external backup drive (Maxtor/Seagate Shared Network Drive). This is the only script that is stalling. All others are running fine. Where do I find XP System Restore so I can turn it off? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Mayoff
System Restore is a tab in the My Computer properties. If this is the only backup that fails, I suggest creating a new backup set.
