fjean
HI, I use retrospect 7.0.326 I backup 35 system. Each system have a c:\users directory. In that directory i will find a lot folders ending with _nbkp. ( Near 20 Gig on each system ) I define an selector to exclude all the file under those folder from the backup. look like : Include everything byt always exclude file matching name ends with _nbkp with include enclosed folders. After the backup is done, I look for _nbkp file or folders on the tape and there is none. BUT, If I verify during the backup is running, retrospect doesnt copy those file on the backup tape, but it read the name of all those file even i tell him not to check the files in a subfolders that end with _nbkp. And that why My backup take near 10 hours to finish . It's analysing 680 gig of file for nothing. Is there a way to do that ? thanks
jsunderwood
You appear to contradict yourself. You want to exclude folders with names ending _nbkp and then you complain that they are not on the tape. The exclusion rule should relate to a folder, not a file. Exclude: Windows (folder icon) path ends with _nbkp Using file when you mean folder will not have the result you want. What kind of verification are you using? MD5 or compare source? At what point do you see Retrospect reading the file names you want omitted? Is it when creating the snapshot? If so then it is probable that these files occur on an earlier backup and, therefore, are part of the snapshot. How much data is included in your backup? The time to run it will depend on that as well as the speed of the disks, the tape drive and any network in place. I have a backup of 20GB which takes about seven hours to run (and that has no excluded files or folders).
fjean
Hi John I was not complaining, that's what I want , not having those file in the tape. But I don't understand why I see those file name process during a normal backup. In the activity monitor windows, at the bottom, during a full backup I saw those file name read (process and exclude )on each system. Those file are all in a directory with a name ending with _nbkp. I was thinking that my selector will exclude those files from event being read and exclude on each system. A full backup set is about 300 gig. here is an exemple c:\users c:\users\example c:\users\example\test_nbkp c:\users\example\good_stuff ... I was just expecting that retrospect just exclude the directory c:\users\example\test_nbkp. So If I exclude the folder not the file, by problem will be fix ?
