wsturdev
I have recently purchased and installed Retrospect 7.5 for Windows. In an effort to do the quickest possible backups, since I do most of my work in a few specific folders, I set up a number of scripts to run incremental backups at strategic times and only capture those folders. I thought this would make those backups extremely fast, and then I could do a full hard drive backup at less frequent intervals. It is true that once the actual backup starts, it is confined to only the folders or files I have specified, however, even though I specified specific folders, Retrospect still searches through my entire hard drive and that search takes a long time and slows down my computer while it is running. How can I tell a script to go straight to a specific folder, in a specific path, and only look at that one and then back up that folder's contents if they have changed? Being able to do this would ensure the fastest backup possible for the folders I am in most of the time.
rhwalker
Set up a Retrospect subvolume (or multiple subvolumes, depending on your filesystem structure), and use that subvolume as the source. Retrospect will then only scan that subvolume when it builds its list of files to back up.
